The Comfort Hip protector is a comfortable aid to reduce the risk of a hip fracture upon impact during a fall.
The Comfort Hip protector offers a simple solution to reduce the risk of a hip fracture during a fall. By absorbing 60% of the impact, the protector proves to be an effective aid but can not completely rule out the possibility of a fracture as a result of a fall.
A common issue is that hip protectors are not well worn because they lack in comfort or they prove to be difficult to wear. The Comfort Hip protector design is based on comfort and daily convenience. It isn’t visible under regular clothing and can be used comfortably day and night.
Most people don’t like to talk about fall prevention, but it proves to be a problem that deserves attention. Yearly in the Netherlands, 88.000 people of 55 years and older are brought to A&E after a fall. Some 15.000 of these people are admitted for a longterm hospital stay because of a hip fracture.
Incidents involving a fall also impact people’s confidence and self-esteem: after injuring themselves, they become less independent and worry about another fall. The right protector can get them their confidence back and enables them to stay active and independent.
The hip protector is also available in an adjusted open crotch version for people dealing with incontinence.
Medical care at home
Trials focussing on medical care at home have shown that wearing the protector tends to give people more confidence. As a result they showed positive developments in their own freedom of movement.
Hip protectors play a major role in reducing hip fractures and other injuries in a sideways fall. The Comfort Hip protector absorbs 60% of the impact during a fall, considerably reducing the chances of a hip fracture upon impact.
What is the Comfort Hip protector?
The Comfort Hip protector is a type of pants with shock-absorbing padded elements to reduce the risk of a hip fracture during a fall.
How does it work?
The pants are provided with padded elements containing ‘Sands’ material. This creates a shock absorption of 60% upon the impact of a fall.
What is Sands?
Sands is a slim and elastic material that’s skin-friendly and smartly adapts itself to the contours of the body.
When to wear the pants?
Statistics show that most falling incidents occur during the evening and night. If you belong in a fall-risk category, make sure to wear them during sports or other physical activities.
Are the pants visible under regular clothes?
The material is exceptionally flexible and thin, meaning it’s practically invisible under your daily outfit.
How do you clean the pants?
Remove the protective padding and wash the pants at 60ºC of 90ºC. During a first wash, the pants can shrink up to 8%. Wash the protective padding separately by hand at 40ºC. Don’t put the items in a dryer and don’t use chlorine.
Is preventive aid covered by my insurance?
Some Dutch healthcare insurance companies cover part of the costs if you have an additional package. Our advice is to check the latest info with your healthcare provider or insurance.
